Jeffrey Hatcher's adaptation for the classic suspense thriller, Dial M for Murder sheds a new light on sapphic relationships in the 1950's and the deception, lies and suspicion that surrounds the affair of Margot and Maxine. Working with a limited color palette, I wanted to explore textures and silhouettes that are reminiscent of a foggy October night. Using the contrast of Margot's curves against the sharp angles of Maxine I wanted to pay homage to the different ways the two women interpret femininity, as well as break from lesbian  stereotypes of what a business-minded woman looks like. It also speaks to the treatment of gay people at the time and the need to be discreet as to not loose jobs, money and status.
