For this production, I imagined Peer Gynt as a deeply insecure person who has an inherent need for validation and attention. At the start of the play, Peer is a young man who seeks admiration from his mother but as he is introduced to a technological, fantasy world he transforms into an influencer- an embodiment of the need to constantly be viewed and seen, while sometimes having these moments of clarity where he realizes the superficial fantasy he is engaging with and his illusion is briefly shattered. Exploring how modern clothing moves from naturalistic to the fantastical future, my design was influenced by online trends, brand logos and sponsorships as well as heightened silhouettes that still remain recognizable.
