By setting Shakespeare's Macbeth in a northern Russian tundra, I wanted to examine how an icy and harsh environment would push the characters to make desperate choices to maintain power and status. Drawing parallels to the Russia in the late 1600's and the tumultuous Russia of today, I explored how higher status characters had more historical silhouettes and textures while still maintaining an appeal to modern audiences.
